In honor of my mother...
This site is dedicated to my Mother, Cindy. She is an amazing lady who gives her heart and soul for those she believes in.
On 3/27/2010 my Mother had a very bad accident while trying to leave a local speedway. She suffered from a severe head trauma after losing her balance and falling, head-first, down 30 feet of concrete stairs. EMT's did not expect my Mother to make it through the night. She was 90 degrees when they arrived and she had already lost 1/3 of her body's blood volume. She was totally unresponsive! Her injuries included a fractured skull in several places, fractured facial bones, broken neck and a dislocated shoulder. Doctors believed that approximately 1/3 of a cup full of her brain was permanently dead, and therefore it had to be removed. Unfortunately, that's a part of my Mother that I is lost forever as this portion of her brain controlled her memories, cognitive thinking and reasoning.
Being an EMT myself, I want to personally thank those who assisted my Mother, it was your quick response and knowledge that saved my Mothers life! My Mother was air-lifted to Carolina's Medical Center (CMC) in Charlotte, NC where she remained for 2 months. She had great doctors, nurses and therapists.
As of today 11/29/2013 ~ she is walking, talking, eating on her own and doing her best to make every day a good one. She is suffering from Depression due to the fact that she has to be dependent on others. She is not able to cook hot meals, drive, work, etc... Her short term memory is declining and she suffers from dementia. However, it is her strong will and her passion for life that has brought her this far. Please pray for my Mother as she continues forward in her life's journey.
For those who have suffered Traumatic Brain Injury as my Mother has, or for those families who have someone close to you who has suffered from TBI, I understand what you are going through. The road ahead is unknown and the journey is a rough road, but with support from family and friends, you will have your life back. Stay strong Mom! EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US LOVE YOU!
